This fabulously imaginative and deliciously loopy romance is the sweetest sink in yet from the magnificently twisty mind behind Adaptation, homophile race Nature, and Being John Malkovich. Once again Charlie Kaufman plays with the themes of identity, time, memory, and charity in a slightly off-kilter world that seems oddly homelike and familiar. The movie is tougher, truer, more nervus-breaking and then more emotional state-healing than a photograph store ledge of Julias, Megs, Reeses, and Sandras. Joel (Jim Carrey) is a shy man whose softheartedness is broken when whimsical and free-spirited clementine tree (Kate Winslet) leaves him.
