Washington Irving was an American author of the early nineteenth century. Some of his most well-known short stories include: snag Van Winkle, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, & The Tales of a Traveller. Irving was also popularized by his biographies. He wrote biographies of George Washington, Oliver Goldsmith, & Muhammad. He was star of the authors to be recognized as a well writer in both Europe and America.
Washington Irving was born on April 3, 1783, in reinvigorated York, new-made York, at the end of the subversive War. His parents, Scottish-English immigrants, were great admirers of General George Washington, and named their son after their hero. Washington was the youngest of eleven children in his large merchant family. Early in his life, Irving highly-developed a passion for books. He read popular books as in Robinson Crusoe, Sinbad the Sailor, and The World Displyed (stories about voyages and travel). Irving attended school until he was nearly fifteen years old. Briefly after refinement school, he was a successful manager, lawyer, and businessmen.
Irvings first better-looking break as a writer, came when his brother Peter introduced him to the family newspaper, The New York Morning Chronicle. Here, he earned enough money and become to start his travels across the globe.

He ventured from Italy, to France, to Spain, and to Belgium. In Italy he met the write out of his life, Matilda Hoffman. Irving was briefly engaged to Matilda, daughter of a Federalist judge, but she died of breathing in in 1809.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, is in my opinion, Washington Irvings best book written. This books promoter is Ichabod Crane. He is a poor school-master that was relocated to Tarry Town, New York, in the early 1800s, in search of a job. The thwarter is The Headless Horseman, a ghost who lost his to a sidetrack cannon ball during the Revolutionary War.
